STRATEGIE DI RIQUALIFICAZIONE E RIGENERAZIONE URBANA

Academic Year 2026/2027 - 4° Year
Teaching Staff: Fausto Carmelo NIGRELLI
Credit Value: 6
Scientific field: ICAR/21 - Urban and landscape planning
Taught classes: 35 hours
Exercise: 13 hours
Semester: 2°

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to introduce mature students to a field of research and professional practice that meets the requirements of the architect’s evolving role in contemporary society, where the paradigm of sustainability provides the framework.

This objective is pursued by focusing on the principles and methodologies that characterise urban and territorial regeneration and that counteract gentrification and touristification, starting with the analysis of international case studies. In this way, the course aims to enhance not only students’ knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of urban transformation, but also to foster awareness of the architect’s role as a professional capable of mastering and guiding the convergence between spatial aspects and the social needs of residents. By the end of the course, students will be able to independently identify and implement the necessary actions to initiate and manage socially-oriented urban regeneration processes, countering the negative effects of gentrification and touristification, having learnt to manage the conflicts generated by these actions, including through the communication and conflict-management techniques acquired.

Course Structure

The course is delivered through lectures. Four seminars will be organised, led by lecturers and experts who will share their insights and experiences with the students, engaging in discussion with them and with the course lecturer. Towards the end of the course, there will be an in-depth analysis of a case study deemed to be significant.
