Learning Objectives
he course aims to provide a framework for the knowledge and understanding of the history of Italian architecture of the modern age and its protagonists with a look at the European and international framework. The history of architecture will be analyzed in its relationship with the history of the city.
Course Structure
The course takes place through theoretical lectures and exercises to prepare the exam.
Detailed Course Content
The Italian Renaissance:
protagonists of the arts and urban renewal (Brunelleschi, Alberti, Michelangelo);
The ideal Renaissance cities: Pienza, Urbino, Ferrara and fortified cities;
from Alberti to Palladio;
Florence and Rome.
Introduction to the Baroque:
The Roman Baroque and its protagonists: Bernini, Borromini, Da Cortona;
Regional areas of Piemonte Baroque, Veneto, Naples, Puglia, Sicily;
Late-baroque in Italy and in Europe.
