Detailed Course Content

• Restoration

  The workshop includes the disciplines of design, history and restoration; It is directed to test the project methods on existing architecture with conservative aims. This preliminary assumption permits the understanding of the proposed procedure for the definition of the design choices in continuity with the course of Restoration. With the specific aim of simulating the actual process of the restoration project development, the testing offered to the students provides a multidisciplinary approach in which the design and the historical disciplines contribute in a coordinated and synergistic way to the elaboration of the project of restoration proposal. In this framework the discipline of restoration will act as a coordinator between the analytical and design contributions involved, identifying the constraints within which the project must move (identification of portions to preserve and those to be devoted to partial modification) and specifying the intervention techniques to be used (compatibility and minimum intervention). The students will be guided from one side to the design strategies clarification (conservation and compatible use) and on the other hand to the solution of specific states of crisis through by the removing of the causes and the repair of the alterations induced by them.
