Expected Learning Outcomes

The teaching activity, divided into a theoretical part and an exercise part, aims to make students aware of the complexity el territory and landscape, the evolution of critical thinking concerning them and the ways of intervention through the tools of planning in connection with those of programming. Within this general objective, students/students will have to mature in particular the ability to prefigure, evaluate and manage the physical transformations of places from the existing territorial relationships.

During the workshop, exercises will be organized with the aim of applying what was presented during the lectures. 

The final exercise aims to test what has been learned to specific case studies that will cover parts of the Sicilian territory.

Course Structure

The course will be developed through ex cathedra lectures, meetings with academic and non-academic personalities, seminars, workshops and with the laboratory activity carried out in the classroom

Detailed Course Content

The workshop is divided into a theoretical and an exercise part. In the former, it aims to provide elements of knowledge of the main issues and tools through which spatial planning and the protection and control of landscape transformations are defined, with particular reference to the contexts of the vast area. Within this framework, the issues of integrated protection of landscape and environmental assets in relation to the emerging themes of spatial risks and ecological transition will be explored. Special attention will be paid to the relationship between planning and programming with particular reference to distressed areas and recent spatial gap reduction policies such as SNAI.

The final exam will include an interview in which the students/students will have to demonstrate mastery of the theoretical topics covered during the lectures also from the discussion on the course papers that will cover selected territorial areas in Sicily. 

The students will have to present all the exercises and papers produced during the workshop. 

The final exam may include the setting up of an exhibition with all the materials elaborated and the illustration to an external visiting professor of the graphic works and general themes addressed during the year.
